What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and speaking – for people who intend to study, work or migrate to an English speaking country. This test is valid for UK, New Zealand, UK, Canada, and most of the US universities now accept IELTS.

IELTS is a compulsory visa requirement for students and migrants considering UK for education and immigration purposes. There are two versions of IELTS: General and Academic. It is recommended that students opt for Academic IELTS, whereas; immigrants need to appear for General version of IELTS test. IELTS scores are valid for two years. IELTS is owned, developed and delivered through the partnership of the British Council, IDP: IELTS UK and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Our IELTS faculty is fully trained and equipped to provide IELTS coaching.  Our system will allow assessing the students’ ability and providing them the format of the test prior to taking the test. A student can then be advised as to how to go about with the further preparation. We also provide IELTS coaching material which includes full-length practice tests and CD. Our library and practice material is a unique combination to enhance students’ knowledge and interests to prepare him/her for IELTS. Rigorous training and practice, along with regular follow up and feedback by faculties ensures progress in the right direction.

The duration of the course is 8-10 weeks. Five days a week from Monday to Friday. We also got a weekend course for professionals working and are only free on weekends. The duration of this course will be 12 weeks (Saturday and Sunday only).

IELTS Band Scale

IELTS is scored on a nine band scale. Each Band corresponds to different English competence. The Band Scores are in either whole or half Bands. The nine bands are described as such

  • 9- Expert User
    Has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent with complete understanding.
  • 8- Very Good User
    Has fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriacies. Misunderstandings may occur in unfamiliar situations. Handles complex detailed argumentation well.
  • 7- Good User
    Has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some.
  • 6- Competent User
    Have generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
  • 5- Modest User
    Has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own field.
  • 4- Limited User
    Basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Have frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language,
  • 3- Extremely Limited User
    Conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.
  • 2- Intermittent User
    No real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.
  • 1- Non User
    Essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words.
  • 0- Did not attempt the test
    No assessable information provided. Candidate may have failed to sit for the test

Normally the requirement of the colleges and universities is 5.5 to 6.5 bands
